Gate Photography is owned by Jay Shuttleworth. In 2009, after completing a full career in the Army I decided to pursue my passion in photography and turn it into a full time venture. I love what I do, all aspects of it, but above all I soon realised my niche' was in people photography. I have tried various streams of photography from Schools to photojournalism covering trouble spots in Asia. I lived in Bangkok for a few months and worked my way across Asia including Phnom Penh in Cambodia, Champasak in Laos before returning to the UK in early 2011. Since then I have moved to various locations across the UK before settling in Bristol and directing all of my efforts towards making Gate Photography a success.

In the past few years I have been honored to photograph lots of Weddings across the South West including Bournemouth, Weymouth, Portland, Chard, Swindon, London, Amesbury, Sherbourne, Dorchester, Bulford and Bristol. All of which have been great fun. The experience I gained as I progressed taught me well, having initially started wedding photography as a second shooter I quickly realised I had the vision, passion and love of photography to create some stunning images. I attended various courses, used my resettlement grant from the Army to fund professional training, started a BA(Hons) Photography degree and invested heavily in equipment and marketing.

I also enjoy to pass on my knowledge and will always help out newcomers to photography, at present I have two young photographers that I regularly help with training and resources, I believe knowledge should be shared, not horded. I have a good network of photographer friends, both professional and amateur who occasionally provide second shooters at weddings or we try out new ideas and equipment.

I live with my partner Beci and have a gorgeous dog called Bruno, coming from a background in IT, I try and spend as little amount of time as possible behind a computer screen although this is proving an impossible ambition. I am above everything else, human, approachable and will give my all to make your photographic memories more than you could ever dream of.

Family & Lifestyle portraits that are very unique, from babies to granny, families to the dog, Gate Photography will capture that special moment in life. Our portrait sessions are very informal and lots of fun, we will capture some stunning images and reflect your personality perfectly. Our family portrait sessions are above all fun, unhurried and a pleasure.

After the session you will receive a DVD that contains all of your portrait photographs, All images will be correctly exposed, sharpened, colour corrected and ready to print so that you can do with them as you please, print, share, copy, post, We appreciate that other portrait photographers may charge high prices for portraits and framing however we believe that you should be given the option of finishing the photographs as you want to. We can of course offer framing at extremely competitive prices as well as a print lab that will beat the high street/online services hands down, guaranteed!

We would recommend if having a family portrait that the whole family wear comfortable clothing that they are relaxed in, plain is always better than patterned, try and avoid logos and wording, i.e. football shirts that will detract from the family member, most importantly the portrait should reflect you as a family, if you want to all wear denim jeans and white tshirts all the better, we will get some fantastic shots, a good rule of thumb is to take a look in the mirror and if an item of clothing clashes/sticks out then it definitely will in your photographs.
